Counting Game for Kids: Learn Numbers Visually

Count the objects floating on the pond and pick the right number from 4 signs.

Counting objects is one of the building blocks of early math. In this game, each object arrives floating on a lily pad (fruits, animals, toys, sweets and more) and the child picks how many there are from 4 signs. While counting, they can tap each object to mark it with its number, but they don't have to mark them all to answer. Each game has 10 rounds and there is no time limit.

Three levels that don't overlap: 1 to 5 for beginners, 6 to 10 for kids who already count with confidence, and 11 to 20 for older kids. The lily pads come in groups of 10, in two rows of 5, so 14 looks like one full group of 10 plus 4 more, which is the basis for understanding tens.

What do kids learn by counting?

  • Recognizing the numbers 1 to 20, with one level for each range
  • One-to-one correspondence: tapping an object shows its number
  • Tens: from 11 to 20, the objects arrive in groups of 10
  • Telling close quantities apart, because the options are the neighboring numbers
  • Counting out loud: after a right answer, a voice counts every object as it gets its number

Frequently asked questions

At what age can kids start playing the counting game?

Kids can start around age 3 with the 1 to 5 level, when they begin to recognize small amounts. The 6 to 10 level works once they can count to 10 without getting lost, and 11 to 20 once they know the numbers up to 20. Age is only a guide: start at the range where your child counts confidently and move up when it feels easy.

How do you play the counting game?

Objects arrive floating on lily pads in a pond and, at the start, a voice asks how many there are. The child can tap each object to mark it: its number appears in the order they tap, and tapping it again unmarks it. When they know the answer, they tap the sign with the number. If they get it wrong, the sign shakes and they can try again. If they get it right, the frog jumps and a voice counts all the objects as each one gets its number.

How many rounds does each counting game have?

Each game has 10 rounds. At the end it shows how many they got right on the first try, and from there they can play again at the same level or pick another one. There is no time limit: each round lasts as long as the child needs to count.
