In all of these the number shows up stuck to something visible. In counting there are objects on screen and you say how many. In addition and subtraction the operation is solved by looking at two groups of things, not by reading a sum. The digit is there, but never on its own.
The clock works differently: there the number counts nothing, it marks a moment of the day, and you have to read two hands at once — which is why it is worth leaving for last. The shape puzzle belongs in this group because geometry is math too.
Which comes first
- Counting, which only asks you to look and pick a number.
- Addition and subtraction, now with two groups joined or taken away.
- The clock, last of all, because both hands have to be read together.
Frequently asked questions
How high do the numbers go?
Counting and the sums work with small quantities, the range you can take in at a glance on screen.
Does the child need to read?
No. The instructions come through the pictures and the voice.
Is it useful for first grade?
It can be used, though the site is built for the 2 to 8 range and these games do not cover a full year of curriculum.
