Animal piano for kids: tap the keys and watch them sing

Eight colorful keys, each with an animal. The cow sings the lowest C and the frog the highest, so playing from left to right you can hear the music climb. No reading and no music lessons needed: tap, it sounds, and the animal jumps.

There are two ways to play. In Free play there are no rules: try things, repeat them, play with two fingers at once. In Follow the song the next key glows, and tapping them in order plays Twinkle Twinkle, Frère Jacques or Ode to Joy. Tap a different key and it still sounds, while the song waits. One button turns the piano into a xylophone or a set of bells.

What kids practice while playing

  • Telling low and high sounds apart, and linking them to a big or small animal.
  • Following a sequence: watch the key that glows, tap it, wait for the next one.
  • Hand-eye coordination with big keys made for small fingers.
  • Learning the note names, C, D, E, without memorizing them.

It works on a computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to download. In the classroom you can project it and play with the keyboard: the letters A to K are the eight keys.

A kids piano you play on the screen

If you were looking for a kids piano for children to try before they have a real one, this one plays in the browser. The notes are real recordings of a piano, a xylophone and a glockenspiel, not toy sounds.

For preschool music class

In class you can project the piano and play it with the computer keyboard, or pass a tablet around. Use it to play with high and low sounds, to let each child find their animal, and to follow a song everyone knows together: the glowing key sets the pace for the whole group.

Frequently asked questions

Do kids need to know music to play?

No. Every key has a color, an animal and the name of its note. To play freely, just tap; to follow a song, tap the key that glows.

Can you play with two fingers at once?

Yes. On a tablet or phone both notes sound together, and sliding a finger across the keys plays them one after another.

Which songs are included?

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Frère Jacques, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Ode to Joy and Old MacDonald. They are public-domain melodies, adapted to the eight keys.

Is it a free kids piano?

Yes. It plays in the browser, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

Can I use it in music class?

Yes. You can project it and play with the computer keyboard. In Follow the song the tune waits for the right key, so the group sets its own pace.

How do you play it with a computer keyboard?

The keys A, S, D, F, G, H, J and K, or the numbers 1 to 8, play the eight notes from left to right.
