Simon game online: repeat the spaceship’s sequence

The spaceship cockpit has four buttons: a rocket, a planet, a star and a lightning bolt. They light up one after another, each with its own sound, and you tap them in the same order. Get it right and the sequence grows by one step, and the robot copilot gives a thumbs up.

It starts with a single button and every round adds one more. It goes slowly at first and speeds up a little as the sequence gets longer. The console screen shows how many steps to remember and, next to the star, the best score of the session. One mistake ends the game, and you can start again right away.

What kids practice

  • Working memory: holding a series in your head and repeating it without looking.
  • Attention: following the buttons until the sequence ends, without drifting off.
  • Listening: every button has its own note, so the order is remembered by ear too.
  • Waiting for your turn: while the ship shows the sequence, the buttons stay still.

It works on a computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to download. No reading needed: every button has a picture as well as a color, and the screen only shows numbers.

Is this the same as Simon Says?

No. Simon Says is the playground game where one person gives orders and you only follow the ones that start with those words. This is the other Simon, the one with colored buttons that light up: a memory sequence game with lights and sounds.

For the classroom

On the projector, the whole class watches the sequence and then someone comes up to tap it, or everyone says it out loud first: “rocket, star, rocket”. The screen only has numbers and pictures, so it works the same in any language.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play the Simon game?

Watch the buttons light up and tap them in the same order. If you get it right, the ship plays the sequence again with one more step at the end. If you make a mistake, the game is over.

What age is the Simon game for?

From age 4: at that age, remembering three or four steps is already a challenge. Older kids test themselves on the long sequences, which also go faster.

How long can the sequence get?

There is no limit: it keeps growing as long as you get it right. From the sixth step on it speeds up a little, and again as it gets longer.

Can you play without sound?

Yes. The buttons light up when the sequence plays, so it works with the sound off. With sound it is easier, because every button has its own note.
