The baby foal's legs look too long for the rest of its body, and at first they tangle with each other every time it tries to run. It stays close to the mare at all times, resting its head against her side whenever it stops to take a break. Once it finally gains some confidence, it breaks into short circles at a run, stopping abruptly with all four legs braced wide to keep from losing its balance. The tail is still short and thin, swishing side to side at something only it seems to notice. Its ears swivel on their own, each pointing a different way, following different sounds at the same time. It likes resting its muzzle on the grass and staying like that, not eating yet, just smelling.
